Working principle of diesel engine
2025-07-30
Diesel engines complete energy conversion through four strokes: intake, compression, power, and exhaust. The core difference lies in compression ignition (without spark plugs):
Intake stroke: The piston descends, the intake valve opens, and air is drawn into the cylinder.
Compression stroke: The piston moves upward, the intake valve closes, and the air is compressed to high pressure and high temperature (about 500-800 ℃).
Power stroke: After diesel is injected into the cylinder, it self ignites, and the gas expands to push the piston down, outputting power.
Exhaust stroke: The piston rises again, the exhaust valve opens, and the exhaust gas is discharged.
